High Courage Low Cost: Detecting & Reassigning Untrustworthiness

Summary

Trustworthiness is becoming a more prevalent topic because it is a widespread problem. Agile hasn’t solved it. AI doesn’t solve it. Management hasn’t solved it. It’s up to mid-level and junior employees to solve trustworthiness problems. It’s time to manage up without kissing up.

Trustworthiness has four components: competence, honesty, dependability, and benevolence. This session shares language, simple tools, and habits to detect untrustworthiness and reassign work. It can be terrifying to organize work so that it exposes incompetence, dishonesty, low dependability, and malevolence, so yes, adopting these tools requires courage. It’s scary to unlearn legacy ways of working. The good news is that the tools are straightforward to learn and implement to make untrustworthiness uncomfortable.

Even if not today, someday you’ll feel psychologically safe enough to shape work culture to detect and reassign untrustworthiness.
